Life Span

There are two systems in Astrology – Yogas and Dasha. Some astrologers praise Yoga and others eulogize Dasha System. Dasha System of ruling periods is important and without it even the most learned are unable to tell anything about the span of life.(1)

There are three kinds of Yogas of longevity: less than 32 years is called short one - from 32 to 70 is called medium and above 70 it is declared as long. The longevity over 100 years is termed as Uttam or the highest. (2&3)

It is not possible to assess the longevity of people till they are of 12 years of age. Upto 12th year the life of the young ones should be looked after by Japa, Oblations & Medical prescriptions. (4)

Some Children die before the age of 12 as a result of the fault of their parents. Some die of cruel planets governing the early age, others die of yogas causing early death. Thus, there are three types of deaths of young children. (5)
The sound health of children should be seen from the strong planets in their birth charts. The rest should be declared on the basis of yogas. (6)

If the lord of the lagna is enemy of the Sun one gets short life. If it is neutral, the span of life is also medium. If it is friendly, the span is long. (7)

For people born in yogas, giving only short life, death takes place in the dasha of the planet governing the Vipat star (3rd form the 10th star). For those born with medium span life, it takes place in the "Prtyari" dasha. (8)

People having long span of life die in the dasha of planet governing the "Vadha" star (7th from that of birth). (9)
The range of longevity should be determined by the use of the rule relating to three types of signs i.e. movable, fixed and common. (10)

According to Gemini, the signs occupied by the lord of the lagna and that of the 8th house should be seen. If both the planets are located in a movable sign (1, 4, 7 or 10) the native will have "long" life, and also when one of them is in a fixed sign and the other in a common one.

If both the planets are located in a fixed sign (2, 5, 8 or 11) the native gets "shorter" life and also when one of them is located in a movable sign and other in a common one.
If both of them occupy a common sign (3, 6, 9 or 12) the native gets "medium" life span, so also if one of the planets occupies a movable sign and the other a fixed one.

There are 9 types of ranges in short, medium and long life range i.e. short, medium and highest.

The lagna and lord of lagna plays a vital role in life cycle. The weakness of the lagna and its lord leads to a short span of life. The weakness of lagna, apart form other defects, is prone to lead primarily to death at young age.

What is nectar for one can be poison for the other, and this rule is applicable to spirituality as well, which is antithesis of what is applicable to the material word. In the spiritual realm, Samadhi or "Void" is the most desirable and coveted trait for the mind to be in; whereas in the material world "Void" denotes poverty and is a trait that is mostly shunned. In this mundane world, periods denoting turns of roads, seasons, graduating from puberty to youth, and sudden catapult to freedom from slavery, are such events that are fraught with danger. Thus when the lagna and the Moon are located at turning or functional points such as the end of one sign and the beginning of another, end of one Nakshatra and beginning of another, end of Day and beginning of night; end of the tithi and beginning of another tithi, that period is dangerous to the life of the native.
